I'm going to be doing a few of these DIY posts in the run up to, and after, the wedding but the invitations seemed like a pretty obvious place to start.
We'd sent out email save the dates a few months ago which set the tone (in so much as we weren't taking things too seriously) and also gave me a chance to use the 'wedding font' - Hawaii lover.
When it came around to the actual invites I knew I wanted to make them and had done a pretty rubbish doodle in paint which my friend Tilly then transfor... Continue reading ...
One of my new year's resolutions was to get better at blogging. And I appear to have failed rather dramatically! So I thought I'd give you a quick update on what's been going on over the past couple of months.
I've been rather busy with a little thing called wedding planning. We've now got a registrar, venue and photographer booked and plans are coming along nicely for the reception with the location 99% sorted, decor ideas coming together and some exciting musical delights in the pipeline. ...
I found out yesterday that one of my old Uni housemates has just got engaged! Lauren is a librarian and Mark works for the Book Depository and together they run the Book Monkeys blog! Taking her antique ruby engagement ring (and the fact that she looks awesome in red), their shared love of books, his fondness for hats and each of their heritages (there's a crazy mix of Scottish, Singaporean & Welsh in there!) I got to imagining what their big day might look like and here are my thoughts:
No, I haven't launched a new range of Disney inspired headwear (although I like the idea!) - in fact after 9 years and 4 months the boy proposed yesterday at Disneyland Paris!
I'm very excited to be joining the legions of brides to be and interested to see what the industry looks like from the other side.
Bertie is our 1978 VW camper. We bought him at the start of 2007 and had a couple of years of running him around the UK and France before deciding that it was time he had a little make over. Originally we thought this would take us about 6 months. In reality it took almost 2 and a half years!
He originally started life as a panel van and a previous owner converted him to a camper about 15 years ago (we think). Great! All the hard work done you might think. Unfortunately not. Bert's previous DI... Continue reading ...
I LOVE this blog and it's fabulous team of Clare, Aisling and Anna. If you've never visited before then I have to warn you now, you're not going to get a thing done this afternoon! Continue reading ...
As anyone who follows me on twitter will know, I am a wee bit obsessed with Beyonce at the moment. This is not, as you might expect, due to her recent Glastonbury performance, oh no, instead it's this:
The song, a proper sing-it-from-your-heart-even-though-the-lyrics-are-actually-a-bit-crap-if-you-listen-to-them-properly belter is my current kitchen karaoke tune of choice. But the video - talk about a knockout! The lingerie bit is entirely gratuitous but will ensure that anyone watching will w... Continue reading ...
"You know what I fancy watching?" the boy just said to me, "Bridesmaids!"
If you haven't been to see Bridesmaids yet, go. Go now. Stop reading this, turn off your computer and hot foot it down to the cinema.
Why is it so good? You ask. Well, let me tell you. Some are calling the film groundbreaking or pioneering in that it's written by *gasp* girls! Although why this should be a barrier to it being good is beyond me. Many are hailing it as a female equivalent of The Hangover but to me it's ... Continue reading ...
Well, what a weekend! As you can see Bertie didn't make it onto the road in time (I'll be posting about his restoration soon so you can see all the gory details, lucky things). Instead we packed up the tent, bedecked it with bunting, and got the BBQ fired up. The weather was glorious and we were ready to have fun.
Having found ourselves without access to a TV set and too far to get to our friends party in Norfolk in time we found a lovely country pub and gatecrashed their garden party, huddlin... Continue reading ...
I am LOVING this spell of warm, sunny weather we're having at the moment. LOVING IT I tells ya!
It's getting me very in the mood for the 2 forthcoming bank holidays, the second of which features 2 weddings - the obvious one on the Friday and then our friends Rachel and Andy on the Saturday in sunny (hopefully) Suffolk, and I am SO looking forward to it.
Bunting has been bought.
Outfits are ready to be rocked.
And fingers are tightly crossed that our campervan Bertie is back from the garage in ...
Yep, it's that time of year again when the world (or maybe it's just me) goes totally doolally about what a few megastars (and a few people you've never heard of) are wearing. Now, I don't function without sleep so I'm not one of those who stays up to watch it, instead I pore over the pics online the next morning.
This year the big trends seem to be reds and nudes with the usual suspects of Anne, Sandra, Gwyneth and Penelope being lauded the big winners in the style stakes. Yawn!
Like many others of a similar age to myself (that would be late twenties) I was overjoyed to get a spanking new digital copy of Beauty and the Beast this Christmas to replace the jumpy old VHS I had (does anyone even have a video player these days?). Whilst watching it and singing along during crimbo limbo week it got me thinking - what an amazing wedding theme it would make! So, with that in mind, I'd like to present my Beauty and the Beast inspiration board.
I know I'm really late to the party with this post but despite the tardiness I didn't feel I could not do it. Last year it felt almost as though all we did was go to weddings! We must just be at that age I guess (e.g. getting on a bit and not the young guns we think we are!) So, here's my round up of our 2010 weddings:
First off the blocks were Hannah and Dan. This was a wedding nothing like either of us had experienced before and we loved it. Fraught with the last minute chaos of somehow gett... Continue reading ...
So EVERYONE is talking about William and Kate right now, and what most of us want to know is - what will she wear?
Personally I think she'll go for a fishtail lace gown with a double tier cathedral length veil, although I'd LOVE to see her wearing something totally unexpected and a bit 'out there'.
I'd like to introduce you all to my alter ego: Miss Amy
A couple of weeks ago I jaunted over to visit the lovely Lex at Rockabetty Studios to experience life as a 1950's pin up girl for an afternoon.
Rockabetty is the ultimate Pin Up experience based in London. From bullet bras and bubbly to peticoats and curls, you can be transformed from working woman to screen siren. Lex runs a mobile studio meaning you don't even have to leave the comfort of your own home as she and her make up art...
A couple of weeks ago we rounded off the wedding season by attending Matt and Tash's wedding blessing. They'd got married earlier in the year out in Grenada and although we didn't get to experience a taste of the Carribean we HAD to celebrate with them so they had a blessing at their local church in Pimlico followed by a knees up at Firecracker.
Me and the boy have had quite a year wedding wise - we're at that age where all our friends are suddenly getting hitched. It's been really interesting to see how different people do things, some stick with traditions while others veer off in their own direction. Ultimately neither of these is 'right' or 'best' but what we have noticed is that when the couple are being true to themselves it shines through above anything else.
So basically all I'm saying is it doesn't matter whether you're a bir... Continue reading ...
A remarkable sea change has taken place in the world of accessories over the past year. Where a couple of years ago something might have been seen as terribly outre now the same thing can feel a bit, well, tame. Why is this? What's caused such a massive swing in attitude? Some people might say it's the recession and people wanting to find fun in simple things, or going crazy with the accessories because they can't afford a new outfit. But i think the explanation is much simpler...
For anyone who has so much as a passing interest in millinery Royal Ascot is WHERE IT'S AT! There's always a great selection, from the weird to the wonderful.
Here are my faves from this year's crop of creations:
